Researching diet info today I came across a post on the benefits of dark chocolate. Top of the list was that it provides "Protection from disease-causing free radicals." As a Monarchist, I can't say no to that!

Friday Flotsam: Top Gun and Reptile Videos
1. End of the week and I'm feeling very tired. As seems par for the course lately. Hitting that 'don't seem to be doing anything' part of the cycle. Blah. 2. But working on that, breaking things down step-by-step to try to get myself moving in the right direction. I've been mostly meeting those small … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Top Gun and Reptile Videos
Friday Flotsam: Everyman, Top Gun, Bofuri, and Sabaton
1. First off, my latest piece is up on The Everyman, where I talk about how the world doesn't change (and slip in a little plug for Gentleman Instructed): Again and again, it was the same pattern, and rarely did I find a point that had been genuinely left behind since the 18th century (e.g. … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Everyman, Top Gun, Bofuri, and Sabaton
Friday Flotsam: Half-Heartedly Talking of a Good Book and Couple Charming Films.
1. Happy Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, and I'm afraid I have nothing much to say about it. Besides the obvious: "Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Him Who taketh away the sins of the world." 2. I've been oddly out of it this week, to the point that I forgot I even … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Half-Heartedly Talking of a Good Book and Couple Charming Films.
Friday Flotsam: New Year Reflections and Goals, New Medievalism, and Death Note
1. Another year older, not an hour richer, as the saying goes. Okay, that’s a bit much. Let’s see, in 2022 I put out three new publications, including a full-length novel that been receiving quite a bit of positive feedback. Also set up a website for my publishing label, got a new job, and had … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: New Year Reflections and Goals, New Medievalism, and Death Note
Friday Flotsam: Mostly Battra, Some Christmas
1. It’s almost Christmas already, and with that the end of the year. This year for Advent I did a hard fast: no meat or sweets (except protein shake) and no eating between meals. It was tough at first, but lately I’ve barely noticed it. I am very much looking forward to being able to … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Mostly Battra, Some Christmas
Friday Flotsam: On Retreat, More Anime, and Making History
1. Going on a silent retreat this weekend, which I really feel the need for. I've been experiencing what feels like some personal growth lately, and with it's come another sort of existential disappointment over where I am at the moment. 2. I'm taking a break from My Hero Academia for a bit, since it's … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: On Retreat, More Anime, and Making History
Friday Flotsam: Grumpy Talk Mostly of Manners and Values
1. I've been oddly tired this week; it's been hard for me to make myself do any work or focus on anything. I don't know whether it's depression, low blood-sugar (I'm fasting for Advent), adverse spiritual influence, or some combo. Probably a combo. 2. There are ways to reach superficially similar effects through morally opposite … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Grumpy Talk Mostly of Manners and Values
Friday Flotsam: Birthday Mindset, ‘My Hero Academia’, and Other Stories
1. Yesterday was my birthday, which is once again depressing to realize. I'm never satisfied - or even close to it - of what I've done with my life so far. But I'm trying not to think in those terms and to instead try to think of whether I'm doing better than I was yesterday. … Continue reading Friday Flotsam: Birthday Mindset, ‘My Hero Academia’, and Other Stories
A Profound Experience at Comic Con
Last weekend I went up to Grand Rapids Comic Con with a friend. It was fun, as usual, but during it I had probably one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had at one of these things. One of the guests was Donnie Dunagan, whose name you probably don't know, but who has the … Continue reading A Profound Experience at Comic Con
