My TEFL course had the following as an example of an activity to pose to students. I found it too fascinating not to share.
Take a look at those two pictures and really think about what they tell you about the subjects. Then what that tells you about the larger context.

The gentlemen on the right are prepared for assault by armed assailants at any moment. The ones on the left are not, although today, that may not be wise.
