“Thy Power Throughout the Universe Displayed”

March 28, 2015March 28, 2015 / DBreitenbeck / Leave a comment

Below is a video that purports to show a 3D model of a small portion of the entire Universe. Now, I don’t know enough about astronomy to know how well this jives with the current data, and I know enough about the history of science to suspect that this is largely speculative, since I highly … Continue reading “Thy Power Throughout the Universe Displayed”

“My Way:” A Frank Sinatra Tribute

March 23, 2015March 23, 2015 / DBreitenbeck / Leave a comment

Violinist Andre Rieu performs a moving tribute to the great Frank Sinatra by playing his signature song. Interestingly, Mr. Sinatra apparently didn't care much for the song himself, but it so perfectly encapsulated his life and work that he ended every concert with it. His recording of it is below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E2hYDIFDIU

“The Village Blacksmith” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Under a spreading chestnut tree The village smithy stands; The smith, a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his brawny arms Are strong as iron bands.   His hair is crisp, and black, and long, His face is like the tan; His brow is wet with honest sweat, … Continue reading “The Village Blacksmith” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Generation after generation they delighted, enriched, and inspired all who read them. They had a timeless quality about them so that, no matter how many times you heard … Continue reading Reviews: Cinderella

Two of the greatest comedians of the twentieth century, one of the greatest actors of the twentieth century, and the greatest speech in American history. It truly doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy.

A Little More on The Good

March 3, 2015March 3, 2015 / DBreitenbeck / Leave a comment

I wanted to expand a bit on the notion of ‘meditating on the good.’ Recently I read an article (which I haven’t been able to find since) describing how YouTube’s censors – the people who search for pornographic or similar videos to remove from the site – are only allowed to serve for one year … Continue reading A Little More on The Good

Meditating on the Good

February 28, 2015February 28, 2015 / DBreitenbeck / Leave a comment

I don't know about you, but I find I have an unfortunate tendency to focus too much on evil. I read crime stories, books by criminologists and cops, blogs about self-defense and that's not even counting the fictional evil that I find so unnervingly fascinating. I know I'm not alone in this either; how often … Continue reading Meditating on the Good
