Disney Columbus: “How Far I’ll Go”

Something I’ve had an idea for for a while: a version of How Far I’ll Go from Moana, but sung by Christopher Columbus:

I’ve been staring
At the edge of the water
Long as I can remember
Never really knowing why.

I see
The whole world begin to totter
But I come back to the water
No matter what else I try

Every turn I take,
Every wind I tack,
Every white-foam wake,
Every course leads back
To the place I know
I can never go
Where I long to be

See the line where the sky meets the sea
It calls me
And no one knows how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I’ll know
If I go there’s just no telling how far I’ll go

I know everybody in His Kingdom
Has the role that’s been giv’n them.
Everything is by design.
I see everyone in this kingdom
Knows the role that’s been giv’n them
So why it is I don’t know mine?

I can serve with pride
I can fight the Moor
I’ll be satisfied here on my home shore
But a voice inside says I’m meant for more
What is wrong with me?

See the light as it shines on the sea
It’s blinding
But no one knows how deep it goes
And it seems something’s calling out to me
“Come and find me
And let them know
What’s beyond this line”
Will I cross that line?

The line where the sky meets the sea
It calls me
And no one knows how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I’ll know
How far I’ll go

Here’s the original song, in case you haven’t heard it, so you can get a rough idea how it’s supposed to go:

I would have liked to do a full recording of the song, but I don’t sing. If there are any masculine-types with a good set of pipes who would be interested in singing it, I’d love to hear from you (that may be more wishful thinking than anything, but can’t hurt to put it out there).
