Just as the modern world uses 'science' to describe any idea it likes (whether or not it is or could be justified by the scientific method) so it uses 'prejudice' to describe any idea it doesn't like (even when the person who holds it is speaking from experience and the accuser is speaking from preconceptions).

Christmas Carol at Catholic Match
In my latest CatholicMatch essay, I talk about love and A Christmas Carol: Coming from the master of the caricature himself, Charles Dickens, the story takes one of Dickens’s typical villains—a loveless, greedy old man—and casts him as the protagonist, while Dickens’s typical heroes—the honest, cheerful young gentleman and the hardworking family man—are relegated to supporting … Continue reading Christmas Carol at Catholic Match
New Appreciation Video Up
For those just joining us, one of my hobbies is video editing, and for several years I've been slowly making a series of music video tributes to each of the Godzilla and Gamera kaiju. Just finished and uploaded my latest, for Barugon: Gamera's first foe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Uquy94-7EE
The Secret to Absolute Power
I notice most of the problems held up by people who talk about 'social justice' tend to be either very subjective and nebulous (i.e. equality, racism, sexism, any form of 'phobia') or insanely complex with no clear end goal (i.e. 'income inequality' and 'climate change'). It's either an inner disposition and hence impossible to either … Continue reading The Secret to Absolute Power
How Did This Happen?
With the ongoing flood of celebrities, politicians, and people in power being accused of sexual harassment, some people are wondering how this happened? Well, there are a few things that might have factored in: You said that sex didn’t have to mean anything. You said monogamy was outdated and unnatural. You said pornography was harmless … Continue reading How Did This Happen?
Beauty Response and the Importance of Definitions
So, my beauty piece got a response essay on CM. That's good, since it's a sure sign people were talking about it. It's okay for the most part; a lot of reacting to things I didn't say and emphasizing points I specifically mentioned. I notice that whenever you say something positive, people automatically read a … Continue reading Beauty Response and the Importance of Definitions
Talking About Depression on Catholic Match
For those who don't know, I suffer from mild-to-moderate depression, among other things. About a month or so ago it got really bad, and I ended up channelling that experience into the following post, which just went up on CM. Depression isn’t sadness or feeling down. It’s pain. Raw, emotional pain, like there’s a wound inside you … Continue reading Talking About Depression on Catholic Match
Quote of the Day
From a Bill Whittle video from a few years back, this line perfectly describes the state of our society. "Young people today and Millennials in particular have only been taught what to think and never how to think." That's exactly what we're seeing, and what is the result of our education system: a generation that … Continue reading Quote of the Day
‘My Little Pony’ at Catholic Match
So, I've now been paid twice for writing about 'My Little Pony.' I should put that on my dating profile. It’s tempting, when we want someone to like us, to try to be what we think they want us to be. Being open and revealing our unique personality can be alarming; Discord has a near-panic attack … Continue reading ‘My Little Pony’ at Catholic Match
The Star Wars Holiday Special
One of my personal holiday traditions is to open the season with a viewing of The Star Wars Holiday Special, courtesy of Rifftrax (I’m not insane enough to watch it ‘pure’. People have died that way). In case you haven’t heard of it, the year after the first Star Wars became a sleeper hit, someone … Continue reading The Star Wars Holiday Special
